Wood burns…not concrete.
Steel softens and bends…not concrete.
ICFs don’t add fuel to a fire. The expanded polystyrene forms are treated with flame retardants. In fact, ICF walls can withstand continuous exposure to fire and temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees F for as long as 4 hours without experiencing structural failure. Compare this to a wood-frame wall that will collapse in an hour or less.
The bottom line is an ICF building is built to remain standing. Insurance companies recognize this benefit and will often offer a discount for using ICF wall construction.
